For 27 years Dr Baumann Cosmetics has stayed true to a strong ethical core.The core values that were and will always be the guiding principles that dictate their behavior their products and unwavering commitment to people animals and the environment.
I was fortunate to reach Dr Henrich in Switzerland today as we discussed Dr Baumann Cosmetics 27 years on and what it means to him.
He said that it had been the right strategy namely to concentrate on good health not only for the skin through the creation of healthy skincare but also for the body through advocating healthy nutrition. He said that thousands of beauty salons are now inspired by this strategy so it proved to be the correct one. He also said that 27 years ago people were not talking about vegan issues the dangers of parabens, mineral oils chemicals ,allergies and the environment "but we were!”
When I asked him about what he felt had been his greatest achievements he said “The idea that SkinIdent could actually be created in a laboratory was wonderful and exiting and that the theory, the dream of a SkinIdent line was one thing but that it was indeed possible to create it in the laboratory was quite something else”.
He said that this was “the absolute in a strategy based on the maximim health for people”.
I asked him if he would share his plans for the future with us.
He said to keep on with the health strategy (encompasing nutrition and a healthy skin and body.)
He went on to say that happily people are generally more aware of ingredients, as more and more people were looking at ingredients in skincare. They have definitely become more critical and are much more educated on that subject. Also that the media and scientific reports on dangerous ingredients used in skincare are more prevalent and support the fact that these ingredients can create allergy risks premature aging and even more serious health issues.
“People are realizing that certain ingredients are not good for their health or the health of their children and their families. It is a big topic”
Talking about the cosmetic market generally
Dr Henrich said that “ there is a dilemma that arises when one reacts to customer wishes and therefore many ingredients are used such as perfumes, chemical preservatives and other chemicals working against what the customer really expects and that for many dermatological and Physiological reasons allergies and other skin ailments come directly from body unfriendly ingredients. Not to mention serious environmental issues."
Very often there is a compromise on healthy ingredients because of costs and if the majority of people believe and buy these products then companies think “why change anything?
“That is the reality”
Dr Henrich said that he held firmly to the belief in mantaining a work ethic,of a moral attitude and an obligation to be good to people and not to betray their trust. He could not live with the feeling of selling unhealthy products.”I would’nt be happy he said”

If you buy special shampoo for your baby, the last thing you'd expect it to contain would be known or suspected carcinogens... But if you live in the U.S., this may in fact be the case. For the past two years, health and environmental groups have been urging Johnson & Johnson to remove two potentially cancer-causing chemicals from its baby shampoo.
One of these ingredients is quaternium-15, which releases formaldehyde; a skin, eye, and respiratory irritant, and a known carcinogen (formaldehyde exposure has been associated with leukemia specifically). According to SafeCosmetics.org:
"The North American Contact Dermatitis Group considers quaternium-15 to be among the most clinically significant contact allergens in children."
The other, 1,4-dioxane, is a "likely carcinogen," and is present in Johnson & Johnson's:
According to the CDC, 1,4 dioxane is "probably carcinogenic to humans," and is toxic to your brain, central nervous system, kidneys, and liver.
On October 31, The Campaign for Safe Cosmeticsi sent Johnson & Johnson a letter signed by 25 environmental and medical groups, demanding they "commit to removing the chemicals from all of its products by November 15." The Campaign also urges everyone to boycott Johnson & Johnson until it complies.
Johnson & Johnson recently responded, stating that:
"We have been phasing out the use of preservatives that release tiny amounts of formaldehyde to guard against bacterial contamination. These preservative technologies, which are used widely in our industry are all safe and approved in the countries where they are sold… Over the past couple of years, we already have reduced the number of formulations globally with these 'formaldehyde releaser' preservatives by 33% and in the U.S. by over 60%.
We are completing this reformulation as quickly as we can safely and responsibly do so. As part of the manufacturing process, we have extensive monitoring to ensure that the amount of a trace byproduct known as "1,4 dioxane" in any of our products is well below the level that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and regulatory agencies around the world consider safe.
...We have introduced new product formulations for consumers who prefer natural products, such as JOHNSON'S® NATURAL®, a line that is 98% natural, and contains no formaldehyde releasing preservatives or traces of 1,4 dioxane."
However, reasonable as this may sound, there are two rather obvious "problems" with their reply:

"And it's not like the company removed an essential ingredient to meet environmental restrictions in these countries. While some have banned the use of quaternium-15, it's unclear why some of these countries are being treated to the carcinogen-free shampoo."
If you want to avoid formaldehyde-releasing ingredients and 1,4-dioxane, you need to know what to look for as they're NOT listed on the label; at least not in those words. Common ingredients likely to contaminate products with formaldehyde include:
It's unfortunate, but personal care products, including those specifically designed for babies, can contain a number of hazardous ingredients. Other common culprits to avoid include:
Studies have shown that parabens can affect your body much like estrogens, which can lead to diminished muscle mass, extra fat storage, and male gynecomastia (breast growth). Other studies have also linked parabens to breast cancer, as researchers found traces of parabens in every sample of tissue taken from 20 different breast tumors. The EPA has linked methyl parabens in particular to metabolic, developmental, hormonal, and neurological disorders, as well as various cancers
Four years ago, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) surveyed 3,300 parents and compared the baby products they used to lists of chemicals known to cause allergies, hormone disruption, damage to the nervous system, and cancer. Their review revealediv that children are exposed to about 27 chemical ingredients on a daily basis that have never been assessed for safety. Not by the industry, nor by the government. Examples of hazardous ingredients and baby products from that review include:
Interestingly, 89 percent of products labeled "Recommended by doctor" were found to be some of the worst offenders, containing some of the most dangerous chemicals!

Some general guidelines to keep in mind when purchasing personal care products include:
There is reason to be concerned about the numerous toxic chemicals you expose your children to on a daily basis, as each and every exposure adds to your child's total, long-term toxic load.
The pareto law (pareto principles) is applicable to many areas in life including business and marketing strategies.
There is another model named “Scheduled random” (that partly reminds the pareto principle) that claims that 20% success of any marketing model or even a military campaign will guarantee general and final success. ,
For example, if you are in an election campaign and you manage to win the votes of 20% of each city, you will most probably (90%) win the entire election campaign.
Thinking about it actually makes sense. If you believe that 20% of the customers make 80% of your business, than, when your message reaches those 20% you already have nearly 80% of success.
Many times, those 20% are the ones that convince the remaining 80% (more or less) about choosing your product or service. Hence it is critically important that you check and master this 20% “Scheduled random” phenomena.

Summary: in both of the above 2 parameters the DR BAUMANN INSTITUT is way above the 20% of the “Scheduled random” principles. Continuing this way is pretty promising. However, from now and for ever each campaign must be analyzed in order to make sure that we keep scoring 20% or more OTHERWISE the opposite negative effect is inevitable and we will start to loose customers and sales.
Make sure that you measure your campaigns, your sales and other important parameters just to make sure that you are “above the red line” (above the 20%of the “Scheduled random” principles). Take immediate action in order to do the necessary correction so that you are always “above the red line”. Make it a part of your plans and check it constantly and consistently.
